The personal design of the jewellery and the refinement of the gold work represent the frame of these rare and peerless murrinas, for their beauty and great value, realized between 1873 and 1924.

The murrinas contain an incomparable historic and artistic value and they are set side by side with noble materials, such as gold, and precious stones that reflect their light and create original models, unique pieces as unique and in a very limited number are these small glass masterpieces.

Brooches, rings, bracelets, earrings, cuff'links and necklaces are designed and created by hand, keeping in mind the subject they will contain.

The Cock's Egg

represent the latest original creation that exalts the great value of the murrinas giving ideal continuity and paying homage to the artistic expression of those craftsmen who gave free play to their real love for glass through these small glass pieces.

Set in "The Cock's Egg", richly adorned by gold embroidery and inlays, rubies and diamonds, reflected in the noble metal, the murrina becomes the absolute protagonist of this jewel.

"The Cock's Egg" is turned out from the goldsmith s workshop in the following models: ring and pendant. True pieces of a collection.
Giusy Moretti - who will always remain bound to her father Ulderico and to his work - loves to tell how, when she was a child, she was given a cardboard box containing these small, brightly coloured, wonderful glass miniatures, the fruit of the her father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's work.

The transition from childish games to the world's art galleries was certainly not automatic: setting the "gems of Italian artisan art" into frameworks of gold and precious stones - thus creating an amazing and absolutely new collection of jewellery - was the result of professional maturity deriving from a deep, unending love of her family's work.

Giusy Moretti only began to exhibit and sell her collection in the '90's when she decided to bring the old art of the murrina back to life, opening up to the world this singular and fascinating window on the Morettis and their memorable business - until the last murrina is sold. Before then she had always kept her creations for herself, linking each new piece of jewellery to a particular moment in her life or to important anniversaries.

All the pieces, which are exclusive (and limited to the physical existence of the murrine in the collection), are designed and made with careful thought as to their final setting: brooches, rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces whose design is closely supervised together with the goldsmith's work.

She shows a passion and sensitivity that are unmatched. For Giusy Moretti the creation of a piece of jewellery is not a mere job: it is giving an ideal continuity to the work of her father Ulderico, of her grandfather Luigi and of her great-grandfather Vincenzo; after producing the daily quota of glass for business, these family members could, in the creation of the murrine, give free rein to their love of glass, and to their ardent participation in the Country's and island's historical events of which - in their own way - they were undoubted protagonists.
Late XIX century glass-making on Murano found one of its best prepared and most sensitive exponents in Vincenzo Moretti (1835-1901). In fact it is thanks to him - as designer-craftsman in Antonio Salvati's Compagnia di Venezia e Murano - that murrino glass was introduced onto the island, adopting the same procedures that had once been used in Alexandrian and Roman times.

Gold medal winner at the second Murano glass exhibition in 1869, Moretti glass was to reach its moment of glory in 1878 during the Paris World Fair where the pieces of glass by this skilled craftsman were described as "the most beautiful gems in Italian artisan art".

The movement to recuperate the ancient techniques, stimulated by a sort of artistic revenge, was to culminate in the production of some wonderful murrina portraits which, not by chance, were on a patriotic theme: together with his son Luigi (1867-1946), who went on to continue his work, they first produced some geometric patterns, flowers and birds, before creating not only King Vittorio Emanuele II, King Umberto I, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Emperor Francis Joseph and William of Prussia, but also a self portrait, the Madonna, Pope Leo XIII and Christopher Columbus, created for the fourth centenary of the discovery of America.

The fact that the artistic murrine, over and above the firm's output (Luigi Moretti, together with his father and his brothers Vittorio and Cesare, founded "Moretti Luigi & Bros." in 1900), are a real family passion, also becomes clear with Ulderico (1892-1956) who, after the Municipality of Murano was annexed to that of Venice (on 31 December 1923), demonstrated his dissent as an artist (he successfully took part - winning prizes - in several Biennali between the '20's and '30's) by immortalizing the island's symbol - the cockeral - within a series of murrine which he even set in the Venetian-style floor of his house.
